The Lavazza A Modo Mio Idola is a compact capsule coffee machine designed in Turin and winner of the Red Dot Design Award. Its 14.5 cm width and 4 kg body fit easily on a countertop, while the 1.1 L removable water tank and 10-capsule used-capsule tray keep refills and emptying infrequent.
Four touch buttons dispense espresso (30 ml), espresso lungo (45 ml), long coffee (90 ml) or a free dose, with programmable quantities and a temperature boost button for hotter coffee. The machine heats up in 28 seconds, pours coffee in about 35 seconds, and shuts off automatically after 9 minutes of inactivity.

Materials & care
First use: run 0.5 L of water without a capsule, in two passes on the free dose button, as instructed in the Lavazza user manual.
Reservoir: fresh, potable and non-carbonated water, never exceed the MAX mark; empty, rinse and refill after 3 days of non-use.
Capsule container and drip tray: empty as soon as the full container light comes on; the used capsule falls into the container when the lever is raised and then lowered.
Cleaning: all removable parts are dishwasher safe; the bodywork should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth, never with solvents or alcohol.
Descaling: as requested by the machine (dedicated indicator light), generally every 2 to 3 months: Lavazza descaler 250 ml + 250 ml of water, container of at least 0.5 L under the coffee outlet, then two rinses. Never use vinegar.

The Idola measures 14.5 × 38 × 28 cm and weighs 4 kg, so it fits on a standard kitchen countertop. The cup holder is height-adjustable to accommodate different cup sizes.

Frequently asked questions
Which capsules are compatible with the Lavazza Idola?
Only Lavazza A Modo Mio capsules fit, as the capsule has its own unique shape. Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Lavazza Blue and Espresso Point capsules are not compatible.
Does the Idola make cappuccinos?
No. The Idola has no steam wand or integrated milk frother; it prepares espresso, espresso lungo, long coffee and a free dose. Milk must be frothed separately.
How do I program the dose for a button?
With a capsule in place and a cup under the outlet, press and hold the chosen button. After about 3 seconds the other buttons flash and a beep signals programming mode; release at the desired quantity to save the dose.
What is the Boost button for?
It makes the coffee hotter. Press Boost before dispensing: the machine beeps and the button lights up more brightly. A second press returns to the standard temperature.
